The open road, Alabama

This has been an exciting couple of weeks for me, as indicated by my utter lack of blog posts. After Thanksgiving, we finished sorting, selling and donating well over half of our furniture, kitchen supplies, books, clothes, and odds and ends.

We packed everything else up in our little sedan and mapped out a route to Sanibel Island, Florida, where we had planned to take a little bird-watching vacation. The photo above was taken about halfway there, passing through Alabama.

I’m very excited about our moving adventure, but it will be awhile before I forget the hectic and nerve-wracking couple of days that led up to the open road. From change-of-address forms and prospective tenant apartment viewings to patching and painting, to packing and repacking–it seemed like we added something new to our loose-ends to-do list every time we checked another one off.

We hit the road on Wednesday, December 1, and stopped at Mammoth Cave on Thursday for a really great tour of some incredible underground formations. On Saturday we reached Sanibel Island, off Florida’s gulf coast. More on that next time!
