I recently spent a little over a week in southern Florida with my partner and my parents. My parents are avid bird-watchers, and we got a crash course at some incredible wildlife sanctuaries–namely, J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel Island and National Audubon Society’s Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary outside the city of Naples. Despite my parents’ best efforts, I really know very little about birds, so this was exciting and new. By the end of the week, my partner and I were excitedly pointing out the dozen or so birds we can now recognize. Here are some of my favorite photos from our little trip.

Sunset on the coast
An egret springs into flight at “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge
A turtle pops up from underwater at “Ding” Darling Wildlife Refuge
A little green tree frog at Audubon’s Corkscrew Swamp
Sunlight streams through the cypress forest at Audubon’s Corkscrew Swamp
A few people search for interesting shells on the beach at daybreak, Sanibel Island
This great blue heron scouts for fish at Everglades National Park

It was an incredibly happy and sunny week-or-so, and I’m so glad we went. Hopefully next week I’ll be back to more crafty posts! Enjoy your weekend!
