Last week, I posted about some of my favorite finds for our apartment out here on the Olympic Peninsula. Today I’m excited to share a few more.

A reasonably-priced, good-looking kitchen table was a little hard to come by. That, of course, made me really miss the gorgeous Danish extendible table we found outside Chicago for $40 and refinished for our last apartment. Eventually, we found this table for $18 at a used housewares store in town. The laminate tabletop isn’t the most beautiful thing in the world, but after re-gluing the peeling edge strip and giving it a good thorough cleaning, I actually kind of like it. The chrome is in really excellent shape, which is great. We have dreams of someday having my brother make a solid new top for it, maybe from walnut. We’ll see.

The chairs were from the same thrift shop, and at $5/each, I feel pretty good about them–there are two more in the set, not pictured. We’ve also talked about recovering them or replacing the seats and backs, but for now, they’re comfortable and decent-looking, and I really like the way the chrome looks against the cork flooring in our eat-in kitchen. I’m happy with the our little mismatched set.

Also, since this picture was taken, I’ve hung up both the picture in the foreground and the one sitting in the vestibule in the background. Progress.

The cozy green plaid armchair. I saw this at the Habitat for Humanity Store a few weeks ago, and absolutely loved the shape, with its big wooden arms–plus it’s really comfy. But at $35, it just didn’t seem like much of a deal, especially if we want to recover it. New upholstery fabric is never cheap. I put in an offer on it for $25, and last week they called to accept the offer. Huzzah! Hopefully one day soon we’ll have the courage to tackle that re-upholstery project; it would easily be our most complicated one so far. In the meantime, it’s the perfect place for curling up with a book in the afternoon sunshine.

My desk. This was one of our few Craigslist finds. It was designed for a sewing table, so it has measuring tape along the front edge–handy!–, it’s got a good amount of storage space, and it looks nice with my Kevi chair. For $15, it was the right desk.

Last but not least: we found this vintage atomic-style table lamp for $18, and I love it. Even with a compact fluorescent bulb, the light is warm and soft. The photo really doesn’t do it justice. We’ve been using it as a bedside lamp, but I’d like to move it to the desk once we find better bedside lighting. And, y’know, a bed. Would also be nice.
