Ok, so geometric shape fads are nothing new and I’m not immune to the recent triangle fixation, either. But for almost a year now, my go-to geometric shape (yep, that’s a thing) has been the hexagon. I can’t get enough honeycomb pattern, and lately it’s been popping up in my projects.

It starts innocently enough, with a few hand-drawn hexagon postcards:

And quickly expanded to overlap with my felt obsession:

Since then I’ve been making zipper pouches of various sizes, shapes and colors, but with one obvious thing in common (felt hexigons). Applique is cool again, right?

I’ve been having a lot of fun searching out good complimentary patterns for lining fabrics from my (arguably too large) fabric collection. Here are some of the end results:

bright summer-y pencil case/clutch
Simple purse with a hand-made rope strap
Cutting pieces for a little yellow wallet
my favorite felt hexagons so far
a peek at the pretty lining inside

In short, felt + hexagons = <3.

So it’s not surprising that felt and hexagons will be featured pretty prominently in my etsy shop, which will be opening this week. If you like these little zip pouches, definitely stay tuned for details & 10% off during my “grand opening.”
