A few weeks ago I finished the rep-weave rug I was weaving. It turned out so rad and I’m so happy with it.

I also lucked out with this project because just as I was finishing up and ready to hem, I got my sewing machine repaired (I wrought havoc on the tension last year, trying to sew leather, etc.) AND then bought a beautiful, heavy duty Italian machine, a Necchi from ~1990. It sews through layers of leather and heavy canvas like butter.* The Necchi has metal parts and the old-style bobbin case, unlike my mostly-plastic machine with a drop-in bobbin that always causes problems. The new machine had no trouble making a neat, even hem through three layers of hand-woven goodness.

*sidenote: sewing through butter is not recommended for most sewing machines.

I have plans for another rug, but for one reason after another, I haven’t been able to start it yet. I’m off on a series of trips shortly, but when I come back, there will be no more excuses! Until then, some photos–

And here’s what Friday evening graced us with:

It was a pretty clear indicator of the weekend that lay ahead. Great weekend.
