"Intimate seating" in our new living room on moving day

This morning we woke up in our new house for the first time. As usual, we got up and went to turn on the radio–except the radio is packed in a box somewhere. Perfect.

Next up, coffee. Well, you’ve seen the state of the kitchen–there’s resin paper over all the sink and cabinets, plus we turned off the water anyway when we uninstalled the dishwasher to put flooring in. So out to the garage, where Ben set up a makeshift coffee station at the utility sink. The (secondary) fridge is out there, anyway, and our camp stove, so maybe it makes sense?

Then back inside to enjoy our coffee in the living room, where the couch is still sitting next to the kitchen fridge, and miscellaneous tools and boxes are strewn around all over.

Still, it’s our house and we live here now. That’s pretty exciting.  It was a peaceful, foggy morning out here in the woods.

We spent what felt like a very long three-day weekend moving, cleaning, installing floors, painting–all the usual. We’re happy and exhausted.

Here’s a sneak peak of one of the best things that happened yesterday:

Remember the old dining room “chandelier”–

What a beauty, right? Well, it’s gone. In its place:

Sigh of relief! I bought this fixture off Etsy, and it’s not perfect–the canopy doesn’t entirely stay in place, leaving a little gap at the ceiling, but it’s So. Much. Better. And that cord extends so you can raise and lower the light as needed. Here’s another shot–

Ahhhh. A sweet little place to eat. And a first look at our new cork floors! Ben spent most of Saturday and Sunday working on those, and they look amazing. More on that later this week.

Please do not look closely at the pile of random stuff in the living room behind, though. Moving is hard.
